This project centers on the expansion of the historic Traubenwirt Restaurant, located on the ground floor of a centuries-old building in the heart of Bressanone. At the core of the architectural intervention is a new opening created within the building’s thick basement walls. This carefully designed passage physically and symbolically connects the original restaurant with its new extension, a contemporary Stube, fostering a sense of continuity between past and present. The design reinterprets the traditional charm of the original interiors through a refined, contemporary lens. Materials, proportions, and textures are revisited in a modern vocabulary, while still paying homage to the building’s historic character. The new space is characterized by custom-designed furniture and tailor-made elements, thoughtfully crafted to maximize functionality within a compact footprint. The result is a balanced composition that blends historical context with modern elegance—enhancing the atmosphere of the restaurant while honoring the legacy of the place.
